Shirley Mercelle Smith Arthur , 90, of Oak Hill, WV died on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Obleness Hospital in Athens, OH.
Born February 22, 1925 at Parnassus, PA she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Betty Wilson Smith.
During her work life Shirley did clerical work at the US Bureau of Mines and later at the Norfolk Naval Base.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Golden William Arthur, Jr.
Survivors include daughters, Sandra K. Leach, Williamsburg, VA, Connie Fay Paynter, Amherst, OH, Patricia Gayle Jenkins of Maricopa, AZ, Catherine Janette Cordingly, Athens, OH, Shirley Janelle Arthur, Sterling, VA, and Amy Denise Arthur, Fayetteville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Graveside rites and committal service will be on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 1:30 P.M. at Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville with Rev. Benjamin Cook officiating. Burial will follow.
Visitation will be held at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill on Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
