Richard "Rick" Lee Crouch

Richard Lee Crouch, Jr., 70, of Oak Hill, West Va., passed away July 23, 2017 at his home. Born Nov. 26, 1946, in Raleigh, N.C., Rick was the son of the late Richard Lee Crouch, Sr., and Betty Brown Crouch. Rick's father, Dick Crouch, at his death in May of 2015, was living in Oak Hill, where Rick was now residing.
Rick received his B.S. in Geology from N.C. State University, Raleigh, N.C., in 1972, and also had received a Masters' degree at a later time from another university. He had worked for many years as a Geologist in the Environmental Consulting arena and had retired when he moved to Oak Hill to live with his father, who could no longer live alone. Rick did continue however to do some consulting before his death.
Rick worked and lived in Buffalo, N.Y., for many years after his graduation from N.C. State. Rick spent many years of his youth in Brookville, PA., before heading off to college.
Rick was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by his only son, Sean David Crouch of Norfolk, Va., who passed away in December 2016; his grandparents: Lee and Ethel Crouch of Norfolk, Va.; Harold and Lora Brown of Richland, Wash.; and his brothers: Doug and Greg Crouch.
Rick is survived by his cousins: Margaret Spohrer, Mansfield, Ohio; George and Robert Spohrer, Jacksonville, Fla.; and Lynne Nash, Mineral, Va.; his former wife, Jacquelyn Crouch Randall, Cove City, N.C.; his former daughter-in-law, Megan Simon, Redding, Calif.; and numerous colleagues, friends, and N.C. State University Theta Chi Fraternity Brothers.
He was a highly intelligent, compassionate soul who, in addition to loving nature and an interest in protecting the environment, was also a gourmet cook, who loved cooking. Rick was Episcopalian.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday Aug. 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, N.C. with a short visitation following the service. His remains will be scattered, along with those of his late father's and dog Tiger's remains, in the nature that he so loved at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick's memory may be made to the Sierra Club, American Heart Association, American Brain Tumor Association, and the American Cancer Society.
