Mary Louise Moss, 86 of Oak Hill, died Thursday, April 26, 2018 at the Bowers Hospice House from the complications of Parkinson's disease and dementia.
She was born on July 18, 1931 at Bomont, Clay County, WV and was a 1949 graduate of Clay High School. She was active in the Clay High School Alumni Association and at the time of her death she was one of only three of her classmates remaining. She was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church, and in her younger days was a Den Mother to many Cub Scouts of Pack 30, BSA.
She was retired from the Fayette County Board of Education having been a secretary, clerk, and bookkeeper at Pax Elementary School, Scarbro Elementary School, and Oak Hill High School.
She was preceded in death by her parents Rome F. and Pearl Caldwell Daugherty, her sister Virginia, a brother James, and a grandson Christopher. She is survived by her husband of 68 years J.C., sons Steven (Kathy) of Oak Hill, Samuel of Greensboro, NC, and Stuart (Elizabeth) of Tifton, GA, grandson Ethan Moss of Tifton, granddaughter Jane (Jon) Toney of Gulf Breeze, FL, and great-grandson Jace Toney of Gulf Breeze, a brother Paul Daugherty (Faye), of Poway, CA, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held on Sunday, April 29 at Tyree Funeral Home in Oak Hill at 1:30pm. Friends may call one hour before the service. Interment will be at the Clover Cemetery in Roane County. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Southern WV (PO Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802), the Fayette Plateau Ministerial Association Food Pantry (250 Central Avenue, Oak Hill, WV 25901), or the New River Humane Society (513 Shelter Road, Fayetteville, WV 25840).
