GOLFER'S PRAYER

For all the times I have swung a club. For the many friends and the game I love. For the patience I have found in sand or rough. For the excitement of making shots thought tough. For success is not measured by holes in one. But by the times that are shared when you are having fun. Lord would you grant me one last request, to play you a round of the game I love best. ========================================================================

Glenn Earl Davis, 63, of Maple Fork Road passed from his earthly home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2018.

Glenn was born December 10, 1954 at home.  He was the youngest of eleven children born to Samuel and Delphia Worrell Davis.  Glenn grew up on his parent’s farm at Maple Fork, where he also made his own home and raised his children.

He was a 1973 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where he was a member of the Flying Eagle basketball and track team.  He was an avid Flying Eagle fan and loved attending Flying Eagle games.  It was during his senior year of high school in 1973 that he began dating his now-wife Susie, the younger sister of his high school best friend, A.D. Davis.  They married in March 1980.

Glenn attended Raleigh County Vo-Tech and was a certified welder.  He was always proud of graduating high school on Friday evening and starting his job at Elmac on Monday morning.  This was a work ethic he carried throughout his career.  He worked at the following:  Elmac Corp (1973-1983), DeJoy Corp (1983-1986), J&L Treadway Trucking (1986-1989), and Williams Construction (1989-1993).  Glenn accepted a position at Catenary Coal (Arch Coal) in 1993, where he worked until 2010.  His last job was at the Winchester Mine (Patriot Coal) where he worked from 2010 until he retired in November 2015.  His time at Catenary Coal were some of the best years, where he made many life-long friends.

Glenn was an avid golfer.  He had been a member at White Oak Country Club for many years and volunteered many hours there since his retirement.  Anytime he went missing, he could usually be found at the golf course.

Glenn loved life and felt like he had his own personal piece of heaven here on earth, which he shared with a close friend, Randy Knight, recently.  He expressed how blessed he was to have wonderful parents and a great childhood.  A big loving family that always took care of their baby brother and never had a cross word for each other.  A good marriage to his loving wife and three good kids and their families.  He was thankful for his home and was blessed to always have a good job.  He couldn’t have asked for a better life.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wonderful parents, brothers Lewis and Larry Davis, and sisters Ruby McSpadden and Ella Treadway.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Susie (Belinda) Davis; children Stacy Cooper, Sam (Beth) Davis, and Beth (Chad) Cogar; grandchildren, Abigail and Alexander Cooper, Milleson Davis, and Ryder and Kami Cogar; siblings Doris Marcus, Drema (Curtis) Stover, Jerry (Lee) Davis, Donald (Pat) Davis, Billy (Brenda) Davis, Dennis (Nancy) Davis; brother in law, Jack Treadway; brothers-in-law, A.D. Davis, Mark Worrell, and John Martin and sisters-in-law, Ember Worrell, Evelyn Martin, and Valerie Obugene, who he spent lots of time with throughout the years.
