Elmer Gordon Evans, age 74 of Oak Hill, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born September 6, 1943 at Ingram Branch, he was the son of the late Elmer and Garnett Toney Evans.
Elmer was a shuttle car operator in the coal mines and attended the Living Word Church at Mossy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Minor Evans in 2012; by children, Larry Rice, Scott Evans, Janet Forren, Ronald Rice and Jenny Evans by a brother, Gene Evans; and by his sisters, Betty Byrd and Ruby Cox.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Daniel Evans and Doris of Oak Hill, April Miller and Spencer of Summerlee, Rick Rice of Oak Hill, Trena Thomas and Darrell of Minden, Angela Grishaber and Jimmy of Oak Hill, Christy Thomas and Brady of Oak Hill, Tammy Jones and Oather of Minden, Mechelle Evans and Nathan of Oak Hill, Billy Rice ad Rhonda of Wichita, KS, Steve Rice and Michele of Ft. Worth, TX, Beverly Toney and Darrell of Knightdale, NC and Sandy Rice of Scarbro; and sisters, Dorothy Settle, Hazel Roman and Shirley Byrd. Also surviving are 39 grandchildren; numerous great and great-grandchildren, and family friend Rick Reed.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at the Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill with Pastor Paul Basham officiating. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.
Darrell Thomas, Dan Evans, Daniel Evans, Billy Rice, Steve Rice, Justin Jones, Oather Jones and Brady Allen will serve as pallbearers.
