Barbara Jean Tyree, 86, formally of Oak Hill, WV passed away on July 19, 2017 in Ormond Beach Florida.
Born March 15, 1931 in Covington, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Glenna Mae Hill and James Edward Tyree.
She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1949 and attended Morris Harvey School of Nursing in Charleston, West Virginia, earning her nursing diploma. She worked for 30 years as an ICU “night shift nurse” at Plateau Medical Center, retiring in 1991.
Barbara was a life long member of Oak Hill Baptist Church and was an active member of Hylbert/Stickler Ladies circle. She also attended the Drive-in Church of Daytona Beach, FL.
She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, holding several offices, received the Order of the Rose and was awarded the Silver Circle for 25 years of membership.
Barbara was a warm, caring, generous person. She loved to travel, and enjoyed gardening and canvas stitching crafts. She kept everyone in line with love and laughter.
Surviving are her brother, James Rodney Tyree, of Newark, Delaware, her sister, Shirley Ann Tyree-Smith of Ormond Beach, FL, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews from New York, Delaware, Virginia, Ohio, and Florida.
Barbara’s presence on this earth will by greatly missed by all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
Service will be Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Baptist Church. Friends and family may call from one hour prior. Burial will be at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
